Tips: Breaking the Ice
This conversation activity is good for intermediate level and up. It’s a good introductory activity for students to get to know each other in the first class. This informal activity also allows students to feel comfortable with advancing levels by allowing them to recall previously-studied material and giving them a space to practise conversation without the pressure of being tested.
Ask the students to write on a sheet of paper a list comprising their favorite dish, book, movie, place, and hobby. Beside each list item, there should be a short description so that once they complete the list, you can ask them to individually describe to the group their preferences. Encourage further conversation by asking specific questions about their tastes.
